Tennessee's Tax Holiday is coming.

The first Friday in August starts the Tax Holiday Weekend for Tennesseans this year. The official dates are August 7, 2009 12:01am until August 9, 2009 11:59pm.

The tax holiday is intended to aid parents that are sending their kids back to school.

The items that are tax free are limited to clothing, school supplies, and computers under $1500. For a full list see here.

So, if it possible... hold off that back to school spending until August 7th and go hog wild. For many residents it's a savings of 9.5% or more.

Because Broadband isn't available to everybody...

Are you one of the thousands of people that want to get online but the only service available to you is dial up? If you are I feel your pain.
Click here for PeoplePC Online Internet access!

After being on Comcast's cable internet for 8+ years we moved to an area that the only internet access available is either satellite or dial up. To be quite frank, the satellite internet charges WAY too much for my tastes. I have better things to do with $70-100 a month than get on the internet with alleged "high speed"

So, the penny pincher in me came out. I have never like AOL. Just don't like the service, no particular reason. I tried Netzero, because you can get online for free for 10 hours a month... or at least you could, not sure now. Then I found PeoplePC. My first thought was along the lines of you get what you pay for and after the special offer you are paying $11-12 a month. But I tried it anyway. I can't hep it, I am addicted to being online.

Well, I have been a customer with PeoplePC since September 2006. I really enjoy using it. 98% of the time I connect the first time at the top speed for dial up. It's a consistent connection. There are also several features available from the start page. You can get CallWave to see who is calling while you are online, internet security is available, and the email has spam filters. Ultimately I am very happy with PPC.

So... my question is to you... who do you use for your internet service? What are the pros and cons?

Bargain Hunting at it's finest.

During the course of this morning's excursion, we had a school meeting
for Allie and then had to register Micah for kindergarten, we passed a
flea market and I saw a 4 drawer dresser. Me and Jeff commented that
we needed to stop by on the way home. We had to do a few other things
as well.

So on our way home we forgot to stop. It's one of those things we had
been keeping in the back of our minds that if we saw a dresser that
was cheap that would work for Benji we would get it but we haven't
been searching high and low kinda deal. His clothes were in the closet
and sharing one of his brother's dressers. Not a have to rush.

Once we got home we realized that we needed to get gas for the tiller
and the mower, so we went back out and the flea market was on the way
to the gas station. So we pulled in. The 4 drawer dresser I saw was
gone. We were a little disappointed but it was okay, then our eyes
were caught by what looked like a wooden box... it was behind a big
wooden chair and boxes and junk was all over it. Jeff realized it was
a juvenile dresser with 6 drawers made of wood not cardboard. He asked
home much and the guy said it was sold.. So we said okay and went to
leave. He ran back over to us and said he would sell it to us for $10.

So, we loaded it in and brought it home. Need to clean it up real good
and all, but it's cute. I plan on re-doing the knobs with some cheap
little Hotwheels cars. The dresser is after all for Benji and he loves
cars. I will share pictures once we do that. It won't be until this
summer though when we refinish all the kids' dressers.

As you can see in the picture, Benji is proud of his soon to be dresser.
